Finally; Social Media for Small Business?

Finally; Social Media for Small Business?

Google, it seems, has finally produced a social media network that may stick and there is a faint hope, a faint possibility that it may just be good for small to medium size business owners.

Particularly for that local business owner who’s focus is primarily on local customers.

Why GooglePlus?

  • Well Google+ business tools will be released sometime this year and Google knows business, unlike Facebook who took a decade to introduce their over complicated business pages feature
  • The Google+ introduction is already having a massive effect with 10 million users signing up in the first week and online publishers, large businesses and popular brands are taking note
  • Google really does focus on local search results specifically with regard to shopping type search queries
  • You will be able to keep your customers and potential customers completely separate from all your non-business or in-house interactions
  • Separation means you will be able to focus your targeted promotional or special offers to those potential customers that follow your business

Business Woman Demonstrates Features

No-one knows exactly how Google+ will implement a business solution into their social media network, but if small business is to benefit then business owners need to get in now.

According to Christian Oestlien from GooglePlus …,

“the business experience we are creating should far exceed the consumer profile in terms of its usefulness to businesses.”

And as a small business owner you will need to sign up for your own Google account if you don’t have one.

  • Check out the Google +1 button which has already been deployed on Google AdWords and is appearing in local search results.
  • Business owners with an established online presence should add the +1 button to their website content, it works in a similar way to the Twitter and Facebook buttons

Business owners that have no online presence really need to get their act together and get online. If the current economic climate prevents using a professional web designer then utilise the free Google business apps to build your online presence. Google Sites is a free and easy way to create and share webpages.

It’s difficult to express how important Google+ may become for business owners.

I’ve used Google’s social media network for the past week and I can honestly say it has real potential.

Google is the prime driver of visitor traffic to business websites and GooglePlus just could be the small business owners best resource for getting their name and their products or services in front of potential customers.

And not only that … If Google+ for business is as slick and easy to use as the existing network then it will be a snip for business owners to setup.
